WA won the toss and elected to bowl. As well as it being our first win of the Nationals, it will be remembered as the David Wenham game.
SA made 5/253 off the allocated 45 overs and during the lunch break, the weather decided to put a halt to proceedings. After a two hour hold-up, play resumed with WA requiring 182 to win off 26 overs under the DL system.
The SA innings began positively with Dale Bateman and Paul Kerber scoring at over 4 runs an over for an opening partnership of 70. Dale was first out for 34 off 43 balls. Kerber retired for 51 off 57 balls. Contributions of 40 off 64 ball for Paul Clark, 44 off 43 by Peter Judd, 20no off 18 balls by Frank Sergi.
Saving the best till last was Wenham who made 50 off 28 balls batting at number 6, after being unfortunately run out for zero in the first game.
For the first 12 overs of our bowling, WA were going along at just under the 7 runs per over they needed to win, despite an early wicket to David Crocker. Mid innings saw the introduction into the attack, of our two usual opening bowlers Mark Trafford-Walker and Tim Pellen who then dismissed their two best batters.
Mark finished with 3/22 and Tim 2/25 off 5 overs each. Shortly after Wenham produced an underarm direct hit run out, he then took 2/11 to cap off a worthy man-of-the-match performance. Mike Riley claimed the last wicket to have them all out for 120 and ultimately a comfortable win to SA.
