The third match for Australia in the BMC Caribbean Cup 2023 against the USA was another lopsided contest. This time Australia won the toss and chose to bat on a firmer pitch than the previous two matches. Australia opened positively but within six overs were 2 for 26, with both openers out. Sam Davis and Kent Officer then stabilized the innings, until Davis was run out somewhat controversially. He was batting out of his crease and had pushed a ball harmlessly to mid-on, then proceeded to tap down a spot or two on the pitch, but without first returning to his crease. The astute mid-on fielder returned the ball to the keeper who removed the bails, all without Davis realizing that he was in danger. The Australian contingent was not happy to see the umpire adjudge Davis out.

Officer and Orlando then pressed on, with Officer scoring a boundary-laced 73. Orlando (42), Richardson (53) and Hoysted (a run-a-ball 35) pushed the scoring well over 200. Australia’s total of 258 included 25 wides and 2 no-balls.

In reply the USA managed to struggle to 68 with only CK Barlingay (26) and Wayne Copeland (16) achieving double figures. Each of the five bowlers took two wickets, with Ridge again bowling a miserly spell of 5 overs for 4 runs.

USA chose Kent Officer as their pick for man-of-the-match, and in return Australia nominated opener Michael Griffith for his 3/46.
