Mike Riley Match Report Australia vs. R.O.W. 1 February 2023

Updated: Feb 12, 2023

The scorecard can be found at cricclubs.com, under Cricket West Indies Masters Association (CWIMA)

The second match for Australia in the BMC Caribbean Cup 2023 against the Rest of the World (ROW) was something of an anticlimax.  ROW won the toss and inexplicably elected to bat on a fairly soft West Indian wicket, again with long boundaries and a thickish grass cover.  Opening bowlers Stuart Ridge (9 overs, 6 maidens, 2 for 5) and debutant Syd D’Mello (9 overs 3 maidens, 3 for 23) ran roughshod over the ROW batsmen, before Archie Dudderidge (5 overs, 3 maidens, 3 for 7) completed most of the route.  Fielding again was excellent, with 5 catches and a run-out.  ROW were rolled for 46 in just over an hour and a half.

In reply Eric Higgins (26* off 47 balls) and Allan Bougoure (16* off 30) were imperious in their domination of the ROW bowling, chasing down the score in just under an hour.

ROW chose Stuart Ridge as their pick for man-of-the-match, and in return Australia nominated opener Tony Bennett for his putting up almost 1/3 of ROW’s total against very tight bowling on a difficult pitch.

Corrections from Monday’s match vs England: the final over bowler was Stuart Ridge, and Riley’s figures were 4/26, not 4/27.
